Service Dog to “SURFice” Dog

A dog handler trains her pet to be a service dog from the time it is a young puppy, only to find out that the dog has a knack for chasing birds. The owner is bummed until she finds out the dog has a gift for surfing! The dog then uses that skill to help a paralyzed young man raise money for his medical costs. The video has an inspiring ending when it shows the boy walking with assistance for the first time.

Terry Fox Runs

ESPN tells the true story of Terry Fox, a young man from Canada who battled cancer and wanted to raise money for cancer awareness and research. Terry had his leg amputated during his battle and afterwards trained for 14 months on his artificial leg before embarking on an quest to run across Canada east to west. He planned on doing this by running a marathon a day! The story is both touching, heartbreaking, and definitely inspiring. (The extra special connection in this story is Terry’s age and what he was able to do, which connects with many students.)

Anthony Robles

Anthony Robels was born with one leg and now is a National Champion in Division I College Wrestling. He is now receiving an award for perseverance. This clip features his mother explaining his story of overcoming the odds and rising above what other expected of him. While accepting the award, Anthony thanks his mother for pouring into him and for teaching him to never let what he cannot do interfere with what he can do. This clips features the perseverance of both Anthony and his mother.

Red

In this video, a boy who appears to be of about middle school age and has red hair is repeatedly picked on by a group of three older and bigger students making fun of him,  saying things like, “I bet his only friend is his mom,” and calling him Red. Another young man who had been witnessing these incidents stands up for the red-headed boy by dying his own hair red and silently sitting behind him, driving the bullies away. The purpose of this video is not that you should copy the appearance of someone being bullied and that will make everything better, but rather that it doesn’t even take words to deter bullying, it can just be you standing by a victim and being a friend.
